A little bit about me, Elaine.

For as long as I can remember, or at least as long as I’ve been old enough to have ‘a plan’ or ‘a career’ I flail whenever I’m asked what kind of art I make. What’s your medium? sends me squirming and blushing and I swear I say something different every single time. This website has shape shifted over the years the way a murmuration of swallows changes shape in the sky. Same birds, different bodies of work as I continually befriend all my criss-crossed creative longings and paradoxes and curiosities. I’m learning to let go of shame and let my whole life come spilling and sputtering out as my art, my medium, my poetry.

Joy Harjo says, ‘Poetry is not a career — it is a state of being. You become poetry or are in a state of becoming with poetry.’
